Re: [SurroundSound] Re: Lossy Vs Lossless Test

Actually they are more the HTIB crowd and the 'help me buy the best AVR for under 150 dollars audiophile quality' bunch.  Nothing wrong with that but sites like computeraudiophile have a much more robust and informed forum full of actual industry insiders, developers, DAC makers, etc. They've had a few double blinds on there that are actually the same track that was simultaneously recorded at a few sampling rates and a PCM and DSD comparison (that is actually a fair comparison as they were recorded both ways) by some folks who run specialty audiophile labels and of course can record the same material at several different 'resolutions' and provides a bit of a better test than this seems to.  Also the entire song is included so that whatever various rises and falls in dynamics and punch can be more readily distinguished than a 30 second sample--I can't tell from a 30 second sample but let me listen to an entire song and I will be able to tell you if it's at minimum CD quality or better or worse.  I would suggest a trip to that web site or Audiocircle as there are much much more informed members who are extremely serious about their hobby.  One member of the CA just got the first MC DSD playback from computer using 4 myteks and a breakout board--this is the first time that has happened.  That same gentleman is responsible for the SACD ripping guides on the internet. Anyway just a suggestion for finding a bit more reliable information and blind tests.

It's from a group that class 'audiophile' s CD ripped to flac. They
don't seem to have any concept of HiRes. Probably a bunch of kids with
MP3 players.
