{allcanada} OHL: PATERSON STANDS STRONG TO HELP SPIRIT BLANK WOLVES

Jake Paterson put the Saginaw Spirit on his shoulders Thursday night.

Paterson turned aside all 30 shots he faced as the Spirit blanked the Sudbury Wolves 5-0 for their first win of the Ontario Hockey League season.

Eric Locke scored twice for Saginaw (1-1-1) and Andrey Alexeev and Vincent Trocheck had a goal and an assist to pave the way. Justin Kea also scored and Grant Webermin had a pair of assists.

Trocheck opened the scoring at 13:19 with a goal from the slot with assists going to Webermin and Ringuette.

Saginaw increased its lead to 2-0, scoring the only goal of the second period as Russian import Alexeev scored his first OHL goal from the top of the face-off circle after receiving a pass from Garrett Ross.

The Spirit had three power-play goals in the third period.

Locke scored twice at 3:33 and added the second goal at 17:50, finishing a three-way passing play from Alexeev and Webermin.

Kea scored with Sudbury two men short at 4:43 in between the two Locke goals.

Elsewhere in the OHL it was: Erie 5 Peterborough 1; Windsor 4 Kitchener 2 and Barrie 4 Owen Sound 3 (SO).

At Saginaw, Mich., Joel Vienneau stopped 26 shots for Sudbury (2-1-0).

The game featured lots of rough stuff as the two teams combined for 14 minor and two major penalties.

Otters 5 Petes 1@

At Peterborough, Ont., Oscar Dansk made 47 saves to lead Erie past the Petes.

Stephen Harper scored twice to lead Erie (1-2-0), while Jake Evans, Nick Betz and Travis Wood also had goals.

Trevor Murphy scored the only goal for Peterborough (1-2-0), which outshot Erie 48-30 but couldn't solve Dansk.

Spitfires 4 Rangers 2@

At Windsor, Ont., Chris Marchese struck twice as the Spitfires dropped Kitchener.

Derek Schoenmakers also scored for Windsor (2-1-0), while Michael Clarke put the puck into the empty net.

Tobias Rieder and Brent Pedersen supplied the offence for the Rangers (2-1-0).

Colts 4 Attack 3 (SO)@

At Barrie, Ont., Josh MacDonald scored the lone goal in the shootout as the Colts edged Owen Sound.

Winnipeg Jets prospect Mark Scheifele and Zach Hall each had a goal and an assist for Barrie (2-2-0). MacDonald had the other goal in regulation time.

Daniel Catenacci, Daniel Zweep and Zach Nastasiuk replied for the Attack (2-0-1), who lost their first game this season.
