Anchorage natives Scott Gomez, Nate Thompson and Joey Crabb were on the ice Friday after signing contracts with the ECHL Alaska Aces.
Gomez, of the Montreal Canadiens, and Thompson, who plays for the Tampa Bay Lightning, signed professional tryout agreements, according to the Aces' website. Crabb, who signed with the Washington Capitals this summer, signed a standard professional contract.
Gomez, 32, won the Calder Trophy as the NHL's top rookie in 2000 and was a two-time Stanley Cup winner with the New Jersey Devils. His 686 points are the most by any NHL player born in Alaska. Gomez also played for the Aces during the 2004-05 work stoppage.
Crabb, 29, had a career-high 26 points (11 goals, 15 assists) with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season. Thompson, 27, had nine goals and 15 points in 68 games for the Lightning.
