EDMONTON -- Ali Gerba scored twice to lead the Montreal Impact to a 5-0 win over Edmonton FC for its first victory of the North American Soccer League season.
Anthony Legall, Nevio Pizzolitto and Idriss Ech Chergui had the other goals for Montreal (1-2-1).
Goalkeeper Bill Gaudette registered his second shutout of the season. The Impact defence has not conceded a goal in the last 235 minutes in regular-season play.
It's been a rough week for Edmonton (2-2-0), which lost 3-0 to Toronto FC four days earlier in Nutrilite Canadian Championship competition.
"We are satisfied with tonight's result, most notably for all the players who never stopped working," said Impact head coach Marc Dos Santos. "We needed a win and all the players answered well.
"The conditions were not easy, but we were able to adapt quickly. It's an important win morally before Wednesday's highly anticipated game against Vancouver."
Montreal heads to Vancouver to prepare for the second leg of the Nutrilite Canadian Championship semifinal against the Whitecaps on Wednesday night. The Impact lost the first contest 1-0 .
