{allcanada} WHL: BULMER'S OT GOAL GIVES ROCKETS FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

It took an extra period but the Kelowna Rockets finally won a game.

Brett Bulmer scored the overtime winner for Kelowna, as the Rockets beat the Prince Albert Raiders 3-2 in Western Hockey League action Saturday night.

Kelowna was the last team in the Canadian Hockey League to win a game this season. The Rockets had started the season with a four-game losing streak before hosting Prince Albert.

It took an impressive offensive output to earn this victory --Kelowna out-shot Prince Albert 49-31.

The Rockets trailed 1-0 after one period, but levelled the score at 1-1, then took a 2-1 lead midway through the final period.

Unfortunately, the Raiders' Brandon Herrod forced overtime before Bulmer stepped up as Kelowna's hero.

Adam Brown turned aside 29 shots for the Rockets, while Tucker made 46 saves for the Raiders, who are 0-2 on a five-game B.C. Division road trip.

Elsewhere in the WHL it was Tri-City 3 Brandon 1, Red Deer 3 Moose Jaw 0, Kootenay 6 Lethbridge 3, Edmonton 4 Swift Current 3, Prince George 5 Medicine Hat 3, Seattle 6 Chilliwack 3, Portland 2 Spokane 1 and Kamloops 5 Vancouver 4 (OT).

At Kelowna, B.C., Max Adolph and Evan Bloodoff scored in regulation for Kelowna (1-4-0).

Jonathan Parker had his sixth goal of the season replied for Prince Albert (3-4-1).

Americans 3 Wheat Kings 1

At Brandon, Man., Drew Owsley made 29 saves as Tri-City posted a victory over the Wheat Kings.

Jordan Messier, Adam Hughesman and David Conrad scored for the Americans (6-2-1).

Brenden Walker replied for Brandon (4-4-0), who have lost four straight games.

Rebels 3 Warriors 0

At Moose Jaw, Sask., Darcy Kuemper made 25 saves as Red Deer blanked the Warriors.

Colin Archer, Daulton Siwak and Adam Kambeitz supplied all the offence for the Rebels (7-2-0).

Thomas Heemskerk made 26 saves in the loss for Moose Jaw (2-5-0).

Ice 6 Hurricanes 3

At Lethbridge, Alta., Kootenay jumped on the Hurricanes with a three-goal outburst in the second period to earn the win.

Drew Czerwonka scored twice for the Ice (3-2-0), while Max Reinhart, Christian Magnus, Matt Fraser and Jesse Ismond.

Mitch Maxwell, Philip Tot and Graham Hood scored for Lethbridge (3-3-1).

Oil Kings 4 Broncos 3

At Edmonton, Griffin Reinhart had the eventual winner as the Oil Kings held on for the win against Swift Current.

Michael St. Croix had a goal as part of a two-point night for Edmonton (4-2-0), while Mike Piluso and Josh Lazowski also scored.

Taylor Vause struck twice for the Broncos (2-6-0), while Justin Dowling had a marker.

Cougars 5 Tigers 3

At Medicine Hat, Alta., Prince George stormed out to an early lead and held off a late Medicine Hat.

Wacey Hamilton, Tyler Pitlick and Vahe Zakaryan all scored singles for the Tigers (2-3-0).

Spencer Asuchak scored twice for the Cougars (3-4-0), while Brett Connolly, Cody Carlson and Charles Inglis all had singles for the visitors.

Thunderbirds 6 Bruins 3

At Chilliwack, B.C., Brendan Rouse had a hat trick, including the winner, to lead Seattle past the Bruins.

Colin Jacobs scored a goal and contributed two assists for Seattle (4-2-0), while linemates Mitch Elliot and Tyler Alos finished with two points each. Travis Toomey potted an empty net goal to wrap up the contest.

Ryan Howse scored a goal and added two assists for Chilliwack (3-2-0) to bump his point streak up to five games, while Roman Horak had two markers

Winterhawks 2 Chiefs 1

At Spokane, Wash., Sven Bartschi scored back-to-back goals to lead Portland past the Chiefs.

Ian Curtis made 34 saves for Portland (6-1-1).

Blake Gal was the lone scorer for Spokane (2-5-0).

Blazers 5 Giants 4 (OT)

At Vancouver, Linden Saip's overtime goal pushed Kamloops past the Giants.

Chase Schaber and Brendan Ranford scored and had two assists for Kamloops (2-3-1) and former Vancouver Giant J.T. Barnett and Dylan Willick chipped in as well.

Craig Cunningham had a goal and two assists for Vancouver (4-3-0), Marek Tvrdon had a goal as part of a two-point night, while Matt MacKay and Brendan Gallagher added singles.
