SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Canadian Sarah Kaufman collected US$20,000 in a losing cause Saturday night when she was dethroned as Strikeforce women's welterweight champion.

The California State Athletic Commission said Dutch veteran Marloes Coenen made a modest $3,000 including a $1,000 bonus for submitting the 25-year-old from Victoria in the third round in San Jose.

In the main event at the H.P. Pavilion, Nick Diaz earned $50,000 for defending his men's welterweight title via five-round decision over K.J. Noons ($10,000).

Noons was suspended 180 days for a left thumb fracture while Diaz was suspended 60 days for facial cuts.

Lightweight Josh Thomson made $50,000 for his decision over Gesias (J.Z.) Cavalcante ($40,000). Thomson was suspended for 180 days unless cleared by a doctor for a possible right hand fracture and left knee injury. Cavalcante was suspended 180 days unless cleared by a doctor for a possible rotator cuff tear.

The reported purses do not tell the whole financial stories since MMA promoters do not always publicize bonus and other contract clauses.

The commission said the card drew 7,559 spectators with a gross gate of $528,446.50
