The sexy has been brought.
Between Georges Laraque's ode to Seal, PJ Stock's muscle shirt and Val Bure's everything else, the hockey players on CBC's Battle of the Blades made a solid - albeit desperate - attempt to melt the ice on Sunday's Bringing Sexy Back-themed performance episode, featuring guest judge (and BotB alum) Marie-France Dubreuil.
Here's the play-by-play — colour commentary included:
Jamie Sale & Theo Fleury
Teddy bear Theo swapped the box of facial wipes it likely took to wipe off that guyliner from last week's performance for a box of tissues as he got in touch with his soft side this week. Taunt him if you will, but his sensitive self came out with a beautiful routine. I'd even go so far as to call it graceful, had he not lost some control of Jamie while spinning her by one ankle.
Score: 17.0
Isabelle Brasseur & Todd Warriner
Nerve-wracked from Fleury's near-mishap while spinning Sale, I imagined the worst would happen every time Warriner grabbed on to Brasseur — and therefore didn't enjoy, or can't remember, much of their routine. Though I can tell you it was set to Poison's Every Rose Has Its Thorn — and that's far more traumatic than any accident that could have occurred.
Score: 17.4
Kyoko Ina & Kelly Chase
Maybe it's Kelly Chase's Saskatchewan pride (hey, I'm no Roughriders fan), or the fact that he swears too much in practice. But whatever the case, I wasn't feeling his bluesy, awkward routine with the lovely Kyoko Ina this week. And nor were the judges, judging by his ...
Score: 17.0
Shae-Lynn Bourne & Patrice Brisebois
Suggestive groping, sultry glances, the horizontal shuffle (only done vertically) — congrats to Shae-Lynn and Patrice for being the first pair of the night to get the whole sexy theme.
Score: 17.3
Ekaterina Gordeeva & Valeri Bure
The Russians have arrived. And not surprisingly, Katia and Val are the Ones to Beat. They've got chemistry, they've got mad technical skills (double throw, anyone?) and they made judge Jeremy Roenick "wanna curl up with a blanket and a love story in front of a fire." Ah yes, those Russians.
Score: 17.6
Anabelle Langlois & Georges Laraque
Skating to Seal's Kiss from a Rose, Georges Laraque and pint-sized partner Anabelle didn't pull off half the moves the Russians did - nor did they really try. After getting a blade to the head (and stitches) in a rehearsal last week, Georges the gentle giant isn't taking any risks - and any rink rat will tell you that that's no way to win.
Score: 17.0
Violetta Afanasieva & PJ Stock
Between PJ's muscle shirt and Violetta's skimpy, uh, PJs, one might say that Stock and his painfully flexible partner were using their sex appeal to get a high score this week. And, well, it worked.
Score: 17.6
