The Toronto Blue Jays have placed outfielder/DH George Springer on the 10-day injured list and recalled Eloy Jimenez from the Buffalo Bisons, the team announced on Sunday.
Jimenez will be active for Sunday’s game.
Springer fractured his big toe after fouling a ball off his left foot in Saturday’s loss to the Minnesota Twins.
Matheson adds that this could be close to a minimum stay on the injured list for Sprigner, who may have tried to play through the injury if it were later in the year. However, the club will not push the issue and will let Springer heal before returning to the field.
Jimenez, 29, is slashing .257/.372/.744 in 11 games with Triple-A this season with one home run, five RBI and four runs scored. The former Chicago White Sox slugger has amassed 95 home runs, 298 RBI and a .269/.318/.780 slash line in 534 MLB games with the White Sox and Baltimore Orioles.
He joined the organization as a free agent in August of 2025.
Springer, 36, was hitting .185 with two homers and six RBI through 14 games this season.
Springer is now the 10th Blue Jays player on the IL, joining Alejandro Kirk, Addison Barger, Trey Yesavage, and Jose Berrios, among others.
The Blue Jays sit fourth in the AL East with a 6-8 record and have dropped seven of their past nine games.
