Coco Gauff will compete in both singles and doubles at the Qatar Open, looking to regroup after her early exit at the Australian Open.
Gauff struggled against Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals, managing to win only three games.
With Aryna Sabalenka pulling out, Gauff moves up to the fourth seed for the tournament. Jessica Pegula and Madison Keys have also chosen not to play, which could work in her favour.
Coco Gauff and Victoria Mboko team up for doubles at Qatar Open
Coco Gauff and Victoria Mboko are set to team up for the first time in doubles at the WTA 1000 event in Doha. Both have entered the singles draw as well, with Gauff seeded fourth and Mboko coming in as one of the more intriguing unseeded players.
Mboko rose to prominence quickly, much like Gauff did earlier in her career, especially after winning the Canadian Open title.
Since then, she has added a Hong Kong Open title to her name and climbed up to world No 13.
The pair start their campaign against Cristina Bucșa and Nicole Melichar-Martinez, with a clear path through an unseeded section if they advance. Waiting next would be either Laura Siegemund and Vera Zvonareva or Lyudmyla Kichenok and Nadiia Kichenok.
Their quarter includes top seeds Jasmine Paolini/Sara Errani and Jelena Ostapenko/Hsieh Su-wei, setting up some interesting potential matchups later on. It'll be a tough test right from the start if they make it that far.
Gauff's struggles at the Qatar Open continue
It's rare to find a tournament where Gauff hasn't found much success, but the Qatar Open is one of them.
Over the past two years, she's gone out in her opening match both times, falling to Marta Kostyuk and Kateřina Siniaková.
Her most recent win there was in 2023 against Petra Kvitová, but she followed that up with a three-set loss to Veronika Kudermetova.
The furthest Gauff has gone in Doha is the quarter-finals, and that happened just once. Along the way, she beat Shelby Rogers, Caroline Garcia, and Paula Badosa before losing to Maria Sakkari in the last eight.
With only four wins at this event over four years, Gauff will be looking to change her fortunes at the Qatar Open next season.
