The CFL season is upon us once again, as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers host the Montreal Alouettes in a preseason tilt from Investors Group Field this evening.

Watch the action unfold live on TSN1, TSN3, TSN4 and TSN5. Also available on TSN Radio 690.

Blue Bombers quarterback Drew Willy will get the start behind centre; his first game since last August's knee injury. Willy was having a career-year in 2015 before the injury in Week 7 ended his season.

Willy looking forward to preseason tilt against Alouettes

As the Blue Bombers get set to host the Montreal Alouettes in their preseason opener, quarterback Drew Willy says he likes the preseason and the chance to play against a different opponent.

"Drew is going to start and we're going to give him the number of plays, the number of series that it takes to feel comfortable," head coach Mike O'Shea said. "And then after that it's all how the game goes. If you pin it down, if you say okay Drew is going to play 11 plays, how the game flows changes that."

O'Shea said the plan is to play all four quarterbacks against the Alouettes.

"We'll certainly have to evaluate that battle for the third spot (between Dominique Davis and Bryan Bennett)," O'Shea said

Willy said that regardless of how long he plays, his plan is to provide guidance and help the younger quarterbacks get their bearings.

Young Als QBs leaning on veteran leadership

With four young quarterbacks, Brandon Bridge, Rakeem Cato, Tajh Boyd and Vernon Adams Jr., working for a spot on the team, they are each doing what they can to learn from veteran Kevin Glenn and the legendary Anthony Calvillo.

"I remember being one of those guys and a lot of times it comes down to those two preseason games [in terms of] making a team or being active," Willy said.

Middle linebacker Sam Hurl and cornerback Johnny Adams are two potential starters who are unlikely to play due to injury. Adams hasn't practiced since early last week, while Hurl has missed the last two days of workouts. Weston Dressler also remains a game-time decision.

Teams have to make their first cuts, going from 75 players to 65, by 11:59 pm ET on June 14.
