Season series: The Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Vancouver Canucks 4-2 at home on Nov. 14. James Reimer made 43 saves, and James van Riemsdyk, PA Parenteau, Shawn Matthias and Joffrey Lupul scored for Toronto. Jannik Hansen and Alexandre Burrows scored for Vancouver.
Maple Leafs team scope: Forward Josh Leivo, who sustained an upper-body injury in the first period of a 5-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday and did not return, will not play. Leivo and Michael Grabner (lower body) did not practice in Vancouver on Friday. Center Nazem Kadri (upper body), who did not play Thursday, was on the ice; he and Grabner are questionable. Kadri, Peter Holland and Leo Komarov practiced together and could be the first line. Reimer is expected to start. Defenseman Jared Cowen (hip), acquired Tuesday in the Dion Phaneuf trade with the Ottawa Senators, will not play. The Maple Leafs are 3-10-2 in their past 15 games.
Canucks team scope: Defenseman Alexander Edler (fractured fibula) is out for six weeks and center Brandon Sutter (fractured jaw) is out for 6-8 weeks. They were injured in a 3-1 win against the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday. "Those are two guys we'll miss," coach Willie Desjardins told the Canucks website. "Now we have to find a way to get wins without them." Defenseman Yannick Weber and forward Alex Friesen were recalled from Utica of the American Hockey League. Friesen, who has played 230 minor-league regular-season and playoff games, could make his NHL debut. "First call-up of my career, so it was unexpected," the 25-year-old said. "The experience is great, and if I'm needed, I'll be ready to play." The Canucks, who have won two in a row, will wear retro black sweaters.
