TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, FS-W, SNF, NHL.TV
Season series: The Los Angeles Kings defeated the Calgary Flames 4-1 in Calgary on New Year's Eve. Forwards Marian Gaborik and Tanner Pearson each had a goal and an assist for Los Angeles, and Milan Lucic and Andy Andreoff also scored. Mark Giordano scored for Calgary.
Flames team scope: Calgary traded center Markus Granlund to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for prospect Hunter Shinkaruk Monday, and could make more moves before the NHL Trade Deadline on Monday. "I don't expect there to be 50 deals out the door," Flames GM Brad Treliving told the Calgary Herald. "We're not looking to shoot a bunch of people here, but we're looking to see if we can make ourselves better." Shinkaruk, a Calgary native, will report to the Flames' American Hockey League affiliate, the Stockton Heat. The Flames have lost four of their past five games.
Kings team scope: Forwards Anze Kopitar and Jordan Nolan, each did not play in a win against the Nashville Predators on Saturday, but skated Monday at practice as extra forwards and are listed as day-to-day. Kopitar, sustained a lower body injury, told the Kings website he likely would have played against Nashville had the game been a playoff game. He did not say he expects to play against the Flames, but said he is improving. "It literally is one of those where it is like day-to-day, so I've been progressively feeling better, and then we'll just see where that takes me," he said. The Kings, who lead the Pacific Division by two points ahead of the Anaheim Ducks, are 4-5-0 since the All-Star break.
