MONTREAL - Canada will visit Slovakia in the next round of Fed Cup play after being relegated to the World Group II level due to a 3-2 loss to Belarus last week.
The playoff tie will be played April 16-17, the International Tennis Federation announced Tuesday. Choice of surface, venue, and team nominations will be decided at a later date.
"Our last loss was a heartbreaker, but we have to move forward and begin preparing for our next challenge," Canadian Fed Cup captain Sylvain Bruneau said in a release. "We know the Slovaks well having played them in 2014. We have been lucky to play so many home ties since 2014, but now we are going back on the road."
Slovakia is coming off a loss to Australia.
This will be the third meeting between Slovakia and Canada in Fed Cup play. Canada beat Slovakia 3-1 in their last meeting in 2014 at Quebec City.
Canada is No. 14 in the Fed Cup rankings, three positions ahead of Slovakia.
