The Winnipeg Sun reminds readers how 29-year-old Brett Legault lost $100 through an internet scam during an attempt to buy tickets to see his favourite NHL teams play when the Winnipeg Jets hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins on Feb. 15. That made Garrett Hawgood feel bad enough to offer him a pair of tickets to a future game.
"I can only imagine how it must feel to be ripped off like that, especially when it's something you care about. I thought if it were me, if somebody would do that, it'd be amazing," Hawgood said. "It was kind of an automatic thing."
The only game Hawgood, who shares tickets in section 316, took off the table was a visit from his beloved New Jersey Devils. The 29-year-old from Niverville said his cost is about $110, but made it clear to Legault he didn't want any money back.
"I'm trying to show him to have a little bit of faith in people. There's still good ones out there," Hawgood said.
Legault, who chose the Bruins game, was impressed with Hawgood's gesture.
"That's amazing that somebody would go out of their way to do something like that. It's pretty cool."
