{allcanada} TURRIS UPBEAT DESPITE CANADIAN LOSS

Kyle Turris played on Team Canada when it won its fourth consecutive gold medal at the world junior championship in 2008, according to The Ottawa Sun.

Just because it's about to go a fourth straight WJC without capturing gold, he says, is no reason to get down on Canadian hockey.

"I think Canada produces unbelievable hockey players, and we've had great teams," Turris, now a Senators centre, said following Thursday's semi-final loss to the U.S. "I think it says more about the game worldwide, and how everybody is so competitive. It's just such a high level of hockey."

Betting "a small bill" on their respective home countries in the championship final will be Sweden's Daniel Alfredsson and Senators teammate Erik Condra of the U.S.

"I wasn't sure after practice if I was going to put it on or not," Alfredsson joked about wearing his country's colours following the pros skate at Sensplex. "They've pulled through, obviously. I saw the first half (of Sweden's semi-final win over Russia) and it was unbelievable, they played so well. We were able to pull it off in the shootout, I heard, and I'm really happy about that."

Alfredsson said the Swedes benefit from "really good" top-end talent.

"I think the Swedish program, the last five or six years, has really shown potential," he said. "It is in a good spot right now. I think they've got really good programs over all in the country, that allows us to have success at this level."
