The reason size is not a problem (the wife's protests notwithstanding) is that the end result I want is an ISO image of a single CD that I will store on a HDD for playback on my Oppo. I don't intend to ever burn these to a disc.  So I think I can skip the MLP step, and the files would be stored as PCM?

The one concern I have is splitting the wavs to individual files and whether that will cause the Oppo to create pauses between the tracks as it does playing flac files currently. I guess I won't know until I try it. I can play retail DVD-As as ISOs that are gapless, just not individual flac files. I do want the ability to add menus so I can navigate between tracks, and also add the track name and maybe attach cover art. Gapless playback though is the critical element. I looked at Cirlinca and it appears I would need Cirlinca HD-Solo Ultra to add menus. It has a 30-day trial so I may have to give this a shot.

Therefore compression to MLP may prove to be useful.
The simple version:
1) split wavs to mono files
2) compress monos in Surcode to make MLP
3) import mlp to Disc Welder to Author a DVD-A
    (You could author 1 DVD-A of several CDs from an artist / composer)
4) in Disc Welder save as iso. This will give tou a file with the extension .dim. Just change the letters d,i,m to 'iso' and away you go.

You can forgo steps 1 & 2 and simply authour with stereo wavs and not use MLP compression.

I don't have any experience authoring to DVD-A, is this something that's possible? I would only try this for some of my gapless recordings, but I would be interested to hear from some of the authoring experts whether this is something to pursue or totally off-base.
