Matthew Campagna scored the winner late in the third period Saturday as the Sudbury Wolves defeated the Kingston Frontenacs 3-2 in the Ontario Hockey League.
With only 1:26 left in regulation time, Campagna spun around his defender and put a high shot past Sudbury goaltender Mike Morrison from the face-off dot.
"I used to play against (Morrison) in the summertime so I knew he was going to drop," said Campagna. "I just tried to shoot it high and it went in."
Nathan Pancel added a goal and an assist for the Wolves (4-3-0), while Joshua Leivo also scored.
Cody Alcock scored both goals for the Frontenacs (3-3-0), who have now lost three straight.
"He's a great leader," Darcy Greenaway said of Alcock. "We can't ask much more of him. He had a great game tonight, unfortunately it ended up in a loss."
Taylor Dupuis made 32 saves for the win, while Morrison turned away 30 shots in defeat.
Sudbury went 0-for-2 on the power play. Kingston failed to score on five chances with the man advantage.
Elsewhere in the OHL it was: London 4, Erie 3 (SO); Belleville 5, Ottawa 3; Plymouth 6, Niagara 3; Sarnia 6, Sault Ste. Marie 3; Saginaw 2, Kitchener 1 (SO); Barrie 4, Peterborough 3; and Owen Sound 4, Guelph 3 (SO).
At Kingston, Ont., the two teams were scoreless after the first period despite some quality opportunities at both ends. The Frontenacs had four chances on the power play in the period but could not convert.
Alcock gave Kingston the lead at 12:19 of the second when he grabbed a rebound and slid a backhand past a sprawling Dupuis.
Sudbury tied the game at 5:04 of the third when Frank Corrado's harmless looking point shot deflected off the foot of Pancel and underneath Morrison.
Kingston regained the lead briefly following Alcock's second goal of the night at 8:22.
But the advantage didn't last long as Leivo tied it 2-2 just over a minute and a half later.
The game stayed that way until late in the third when Campagna scored the winner.

At Erie, Pa., Kyle Platzer scored the winning goal in the ninth round of the shootout and Kevin Bailie made 26 saves as London (4-2-0) defeated the Otters (2-3-2).

At Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., Alex Galchenyuk scored twice on the power play and added two assists as Sarnia (2-3-1) beat the Greyhounds (5-2-0).

At Saginaw, Mich., Garret Ross scored once in regulation and then added the winner in the shootout as the Spirit (2-3-2) snapped a three-game losing streak by beating Kitchener (3-2-1).

At Barrie, Ont., Mark Scheifele scored the game winner with 38.6 seconds left in regulation as the Colts (4-2-0) handed Peterborough (1-4-0) its fourth straight loss.

At Owen Sound, Ont., Cameron Brace scored once in regulation and again in the shootout and Jordan Binnington made 30 saves as the Attack (5-1-1) edged Guelph (4-2-1).
