Ottawa Senators defenceman Jake Sanderson is week-to-week with an upper-body injury, head coach Travis Green told reporters Monday afternoon.
The update comes at a poor time for the Senators, who are five points back of the Boston Bruins for the final playoff spot with five weeks left in the season.
The blueliner was hurt in Saturday's game against the Seattle Kraken when he left the game in the second period and did not return. Sanderson went to retrieve a puck in the corner and was hit hard into the boards by Brandon Montour.

He skated gingerly to the Ottawa bench and held his right shoulder as he went down the tunnel. He was officially ruled out for the night later in the game.
Montour was not penalized on the play.
Sanderson was a plus-1 with three shots on goal and one blocked shot in 12:52 before departing as the Sens went on to win 7-4.
The 23-year-old Sanderson has 11 goals and 37 assists for 48 points in 62 games so far this season for Ottawa while averaging a career-high 24:49 of ice time per game.
The Sens recalled defenceman Dennis Gilbert from the AHL's Belleville Senators on Monday.
Gilbert, 29, has 12 assists in 31 games with Belleville this season and has also skated in one game with Ottawa.
The Sens will be in Vancouver to take on the Canucks Monday evening.
