Brad Treliving's time in Toronto is over.
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced in a news release Monday evening that the team has parted ways with their general manager, coming near the end of his third season at the helm. He was under contract through the 2026-27 season.
According to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun, the Maple Leafs will conduct a formal GM search and the team believed that beginning that search now was preferred to waiting two weeks until the end of the regular season.
Treliving's firing comes with the Leafs sitting well outside the playoff picture this season at 31-30-13 with 75 points in 74 games. Toronto went a combined 139-92-27 with one playoff series win during his tenure.
Treliving's future was one of many questions surrounding the Leafs as the season winds down. TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reports that head coach Craig Berube was made aware of Treliving's dismissal before puck drop Monday night in Anaheim, but has been given no indication as to his own future with the team.
"Throughout the course of this season, there has been deep analysis into both the current state of the Maple Leafs organization and the direction needed to achieve the ultimate goal of delivering a Stanley Cup championship to the city," MLSE president and CEO Keith Pelley said in the release.
"Brad Treliving is a man that we all have deep respect and appreciation for, both as a hockey executive and as a person, but it was determined that the club must chart a new course under different leadership. The organization is grateful for all that Brad has contributed in his nearly three years with the Maple Leafs and we wish him and his family the very best."
Pelley will meet with the media Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. ET, according to TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston.
The 56-year-old Treliving was hired in May of 2023 as a replacement for Kyle Dubas, who was fired by the Leafs earlier that month. He was the Leafs' GM for five seasons.
Prior to his time with the Maple Leafs, Treliving was general manager of the Calgary Flames from 2014 to 2023.
Toronto enters their matchup with the Ducks third-last in the Eastern Conference at 31-30-13 with 75 points in 74 games.
