Sidney Crosby has been named captain of the Canadian men's hockey team for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games, the team announced Sunday.
Connor McDavid and Cale Makar will serve as alternate captains.
All three players wore letters at the 4 Nations Face-Off last year. Crosby also captained Canada at the 2014 Olympics and won gold medals in both 2014 and 2010.
"I am grateful for the opportunity to represent Canada at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games, and it is an honour to be named captain of Canada's men's hockey team, which has so many great players and leaders," Crosby said in a statement from Hockey Canada.
"Connor and Cale, along with our entire group, provide incredible leadership, and I am happy to represent Canada together on the same team. We are all proud to wear the maple leaf and compete with Team Canada in Milan."
Crosby, 38, is currently playing his 21st NHL season and has tallied 59 points (27 goals, 32 assists) in 56 games. He's spent the entirety of his career with the Pittsburgh Penguins, captaining them to three Stanley Cups.
Team Canada hits the ice Sunday for their first official practice of the tournament.
Canada's first men's hockey game at Milano Cortina 2026 will take place Feb. 12 at 10:40 a.m. ET on Sportsnet.
