Forward Patrik Laine did not take part in the Montreal Canadiens' first practice back on Tuesday from the Olympic break, as the team announced he has a lower body injury and will be evaluated on a daily basis.

Laine, 27, has been out of the lineup since Oct. 16 after undergoing core muscle surgery. He was given a three-to-four-month timetable for his return.

In his last practice prior to the Olympic break, he alternated with Alexandre Texier on the right wing along side Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki.

The 6-foot-4 winger appeared in five games this season, recording an assist.

Laine was acquired by the Canadiens prior to the 2024-25 campaign from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for defenceman Jordan Harris.

Drafted second overall by the Winnipeg Jets in 2016, Laine has 224 goals and 422 points in 537 career games split between the Jets, Blue Jackets, and Canadiens.
