Los Angeles FC announced the signing of Canada midfielder Stephen Eustáquio on loan from Porto on Friday.
TSN's Matt Scianitti reported earlier in the week that a move was close with the player expected to travel to Los Angeles by week's end.
Eustáquio, 29, is signed through the end of June with an option to buy.
"Stephen is a top-class midfielder with extensive international experience who knows what it takes to win and lead at the highest level," LAFC general manager John Thorrington said in a statement. "We're excited to add a player of his quality, and we're confident he will have an immediate, positive impact on the group both on and off the field."
A native of Leamington, Ont., Eustáquio was in his fifth season at Porto, but found his playing time limited in a World Cup year. He made 16 appearances across all competitions, but only eight in the league. With Porto, Eustáquio has won a Primeira Liga title, three Taças de Portugal and the 2023 Taça de Liga.
Internationally, Eustáquio has been capped 54 times since his senior debut in 2019. He has four goals in a Canada shirt. Eustáquio was a member of the Canada squad at both the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and the 2024 Copa America.
LAFC opens its 2026 MLS campaign on Feb. 21 with a visit from the MLS Cup champions, Inter Miami.
