Winnipeg Jets defenceman Josh Morrissey, who was injured in Canada's opener at Milano Cortina 2026, will remain out of the lineup for Sunday's preliminary round finale against France, head coach Jon Cooper announced after Friday's game.
Morrissey was forced out of Thursday's 5-0 victory over Czechia early in the second period with an undisclosed injury after 13 shifts and 7:10 of ice time.
The 30-year-old was replaced in the lineup by Travis Sanheim for Canada's second game against Switzerland.
By virtue of winning their first two contests, Canada has clinched first in Group A and will advance directly into the quarterfinals.
Cooper said that Morrissey has not been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament.
The Calgary native has appeared in 56 games this season for the Jets and has 10 goals with 32 assists.
Morrissey was a member of Canada's gold medal-winning team at the 4 Nations Face-Off last February, though he missed the final with an illness.
Cooper plans to make a lineup change on Sunday as Florida Panthers forward Brad Marchand will return for Canada after he was scratched for the Switzerland game.
Seth Jarvis, who was a healthy scratch against Czechia, drew in for Marchand on Friday.
Marchand picked up an assist and was a plus-1 rating in Canada's tournament-opening victory.
The veteran forward has 25 goals and 25 assists in 46 games this season for the Panthers.
He appeared in all four games for Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off.
Cooper did not indicate who would come out of the lineup to make room for Marchand.
