{allcanada} Senators re-sign forward Chris Tierney to two-year, $7M contract

The Ottawa Senators have re-signed forward Chris Tierney to a two-year, $7-million contract, the team announced Tuesday. Tierney, a native of Keswick, Ont., will carry a $3.5-million salary-cap hit with his new deal.

"We're pleased to reach an agreement with Chris that will see him under contract here for multiple seasons," general manager Pierre Dorion said in a press release.

"He's a reliable veteran who has very good hockey sense and who is consistently among our best centres in faceoff success rate. That he's accumulated significant NHL experience in a short period of time is also of considerable importance to our lineup."

The 26-year-old notched 37 points in 71 games last season, good for sixth on the youth-laden Senators. The season prior, he hit career-highs in assists (39) and points (48) in his first campaign with Ottawa after coming over from the San Jose Sharks as part of the return in the Erik Karlsson trade.

In 436 career games with the Sharks and Senators, the 2012 second-round pick (55th overall) has recorded 189 points.
