Fresh off a motivated win over Maria Sharapova, Eugenie Bouchard advanced past Angelique Kerber after the World No. 2 retired due to injury at the Madrid Open.
Bouchard was leading the third round match 6-3, 5-0 when the tournament's top-ranked Kerber pulled out.
Bouchard made headlines earlier this week when she beat Sharapova, who she considered her hero at one point, but later called a cheater and said she should have been banned for life from the sport after testing positive for meldonium at last year's Australian Open.
Bouchard will face Svetlana Kuznetsova, ranked eighth in the tournament.
