{allcanada} Scott set to lace up skates again

ST. JOHN'S, Newfoundland -- The whirlwind that included a trade, playing in the 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Game in Nashville, being named All-Star MVP and becoming the father of twin daughters would be more than enough for just about anyone to wrap their minds around.

Still, John Scott isn't done yet. There's one more piece of business on his to-do list. To become a father again, for the fifth time after four daughters, but having a son next time.

"Yes, I would like to, down the road hopefully try to get a boy," Scott said Saturday morning with a widening smile. "But I have some convincing to do."

Such conversations with his wife, Danielle, will have to wait. First, there is the business of getting back to work, a move toward normalcy in Scott's life after a dream sequence that would rival any old episode of "The Twilight Zone."

And that's playing hockey, which Scott will do once again Saturday night, when his new team, the St. John's IceCaps of the American Hockey League, hosts the Toronto Marlies at Mile One Centre.

Scott met with the media, a much larger contingent than is usually the case around the IceCaps, following the morning skate with his team, several hours before taking the ice.

"Can we get a bigger backdrop?" one media member said in jest as a grinning Scott stood before the cameras and microphones.

And what can the fans expect Saturday from Scott, 33, in his first home game with the Montreal Canadiens' affiliate?

"They're going to be disappointed," he said with a laugh. "I'm not a skilled guy, so hopefully they don't think I'm going to bring too much to the table. It'll be fun. I haven't played here yet. I've always wanted to play in this barn and the fans out here are great."

"You've got to get back to work sometime. It's good to be back on the Rock."

With an aw-shucks demeanor, Scott said he thoroughly enjoyed how the past month worked out, but was eager to lace up his skates again.

"Vacation's over, back to work," he wrote on his Instagram account Friday. "It was a crazy few weeks; two new baby girls and a nice little trip to Nash-vegas. Excited to get back to the boys on the Rock, though."

"This whole hockey thing, I never thought I was going to last more than like a year," he said Saturday. "It's been a whirlwind trip and especially Nashville, and now this whole thing. It's exciting and I'm just rolling with it.

"There's a lot of guys who just aren't blessed with a lot of skills. I just think that if you work hard and just kind of stick with it, you'll be able to make it if you really apply yourself. And I wasn't always the most skilled guy, or the most talented, so I just picked something I was good at and went for it and it worked out. Hopefully kids take a nice little lesson from that."

Kids are front-and-center in Scott's mind these days, and with good reason after the birth of twins Estelle and Sofia on Feb. 5, joining older daughters Eva and Gabrielle. Scott had spent the past week on paternal leave with his newly-expanded family at home in Traverse City, Mich.

"They're doing good," Scott said. "They're holding up the fort without me, but everyone is healthy and the babies look good. My older daughters couldn't be happier."

Judging from the huge smile on their dad's face, he's pretty thrilled too.
