GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. - B.C.'s Karla Thompson bounced back from a loss to open the Canadian women's curling championship with an 8-4 win over Yukon's Nicole Baldwin on Friday.

B.C., Yukon, Nunavut and Northwest Territories are playing off in a four-team qualifying tournament with the victor earning a berth in the main draw starting Saturday at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Kerry Galusha of Northwest Territories improved to 2-0 with a 13-2 drubbing of Nunavut's Geneva Chislett. Nunavut edged B.C. 8-7 in the opening draw for the territory's first win at the national women's championship.

B.C. and Nunavut were tied a 1-1, while Yukon fell to 0-2.
