Season series: The Vancouver Canucks defeated the Colorado Avalanche 3-1 at Pepsi Center on Feb. 9. Jacob Markstrom made 29 saves for the Canucks, allowing a goal by defenseman Francois Beauchemin. Matt Bartkowski, Sven Baertschi and Bo Horvat had goals for Vancouver.
Avalanche team scope: Starting goaltender Semyon Varlamov will play after backup Calvin Pickard made 25 saves in a 3-2 win at the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday. The victory moved Colorado into the first wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference. The Avalanche have won four of their past five games after an 0-3-1 homestand coming out of the All-Star break. Colorado is 10-4-0 in its past 14 road games. "[Saturday] was a solid performance," coach Patrick Roy said. "We liked our game [Saturday]. Hopefully we'll bring this game on the table [Sunday] night."
Canucks team scope: Goaltender Ryan Miller is likely to start after Markstrom played Friday in a 5-2 loss at the Calgary Flames. The Canucks have lost four in a row, each by a score of 5-2, and have lost six consecutive games at Rogers Arena, where they play their next five games. "You can't let the negativity take over," Markstrom said after the loss in Calgary. "You've got to stick together as a team. We're in the same boat. Nobody wants to be in this boat, but the reality is we're all in it. We've got to find a way to get out of it. We've got to show up in practice and just work hard. That's what it takes. Wins are not going to come easy in this League."
