AVALANCHE (27-25-4) at SENATORS (25-24-6)

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET; ALT, RDS, TSN5, NHL.TV

Season series: The Ottawa Senators will try for a two-game sweep of the Colorado Avalanche after winning 5-3 at Pepsi Center on Nov. 25. Rookie forward Shane Prince had two goals and an assist for Ottawa; Colorado captain Gabriel Landeskog scored once and had an assist.

Avalanche team scope: Colorado starts a three-game road trip after going 0-3-1 during a four-game homestand coming out of the All-Star break. "We have to start winning," defenseman Erik Johnson told the Avalanche website after practice Wednesday. "We played like [garbage] at home. If we want to be there at the end, we need to start winning some games and not squandering points away. We've got to be much better on the road and hopefully take advantage of some road cooking." Forward Jack Skille (head) and goaltender Reto Berra (ankle) are on injured reserve and didn't make the trip. Skille has missed two games; Berra hasn't played since Dec. 27.

Senators team scope: Defenseman Dion Phaneuf will make his home debut two days after being acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs in a nine-player trade. He played 21:42 and was minus-1 in his first game with the Senators, a 3-1 loss at the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday. "I thought he fit right in," coach Dave Cameron said. "He played in all situations for us. ... He's very vocal, I like that." Backup goaltender Andrew Hammond could play after Craig Anderson made 26 saves against the Red Wings. Zack Smith scored a power-play goal with 2:24 remaining, but the Senators managed three other shots in seven man-advantages.
