{allcanada} SENATORS' MACLEAN WAITING UNTIL THURSDAY FOR METHOT DECISION

The Ottawa Senators likely will not know the extent of defenceman Marc Methot's injury until Thursday.

The 27-year-old blueliner was injured in Tuesday night's victory over the Islanders. Methot left the ice favouring his right leg in the second period of the Long Island-tilt after taking a hit from Islanders forward Brad Boyes.

"He saw the trainer today and had treatment," Senators' coach Paul MacLean told TSN's Brent Wallace Wednesday. "We'll see how he is [Thursday], if he is good to go or not we won't know until tomorrow."

The Senators sit alone in fifth place in the Eastern Conference as of Wednesday with 38 points in 30 games played. The team has an important divisional match-up with the Boston Bruins – whom they trail by just three points in the standings – at Scotiabank Place on Thursday.

The Senators blue line has already been hit hard by injuries this season as the team has lost both 2012 Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson (lacerated Achilles) and Jared Cowen (torn labrum in hip) for the rest of the 2013 season.

As far as the extent of Methot's injury, MacLean was unwilling to give any early diagnosis.

"At this point I'm not prepared to say anything," he said. "I'm just going to let it evaluate itself. I've been wrong a couple of times already. I'm going to wait until the doctor tells me."
