The Vancouver Canucks have dipped into the NCAA free agent pool to bolster their forward ranks.
The Canucks announced on its web site Saturday that the team has signed Lake Superior State University forward Kellan Lain.
The 6'6", 220-pound forward registered 16 points and 111 penalty minutes in 32 games in the CCHA this season.
In three seasons with Lake Superior State, the Oakville, ON, native has compiled 39 points (21-18-39) and 210 penalty minutes in 108 games.
Lain was mentioned on Insider Trading this week by TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie as being one of the first available free agents in this year's NCAA class. A big, strong winger, McKenzie reported that the Phoenix Coyotes and Anaheim Ducks were also interested in Lain.
