TORONTO (AP)—Newcomers Kris Versteeg(notes) and Clarke MacArthur(notes) each had a goal and an assist and the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Ottawa Senators 5-1 on Saturday night.
Nikolai Kulemin(notes), Phil Kessel(notes) and Tim Brent(notes) also scored and Jean-Sebastien Giguere(notes) made 17 saves for Toronto, which opened the season Thursday night a 3-2 home victory over Montreal.
Jason Spezza(notes) scored for Ottawa, coming off a 2-1 home loss to Buffalo on Friday night.
Toronto took an early 2-0 lead, with MacArthur setting up Kulemin at 1:38, and Kessel beating Pascal Leclaire(notes) off a feed from Versteeg at 7:51.
MacArthur scored midway through the second, Versteeg capitalized on a power play at 2:44 of the third, and Brent made it 5-0 at 5:39. Spezza spoiled Giguere's shutout bid at 7:11.
