{allcanada} Report: Blue Jays sending Happ to Yankees for Drury, McKinney

After weeks of speculation, it's finally happened.

The Toronto Blue Jays are sending starter J.A. Happ to the New York Yankees in exchange for infielder Brandon Drury and outfielder Billy McKinney.

Happ was connected to the Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies, among others, in trade discussions but it was the Yankees who eventually pulled away from the pack.

Happ holds a record of 10-6 with a 4.18 ERA for the Jays so far this season, but he's been trending in the wrong direction of late. The 35-year-old has posted a 0-3 record with a 7.41 ERA in four July starts. He will join a Yankees rotation already featuring Luis Severino, CC Sabathia and Masahiro Tanaka.

Happ was scheduled to start Saturday in Chicago for the Blue Jays.

It's been a struggle so far this season for Drury, who has battled injuries for most of the year. In 18 games, he has one home run and seven RBI to go along with a batting average of .176.

Drury was solid in a three-year stint with the Arizona Diamondbacks before arriving in New York in an off-season trade, combining for 29 homers and 116 RBI over the past two seasons. The 25-year-old is a career .267 hitter and has three years left of control on his contract.

McKinney is a 23-year-old outfielder who has appeared in just two Major League games in his career, going 1-for-4 with a strikeout. McKinney's two games ironically came against the Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre in March. During his second game, he crashed into the outfield wall and was placed on the disabled list for nearly two months with an injured shoulder. He was ranked as the No. 20 prospect in the Yankees' system.

It's the third time McKinney has been traded in his young career, going from the San Francisco Giants to the Chicago Cubs and then from the Cubs to the Yankees in the Aroldis Chapman deal.

Scott Mitchell on J.A. Happ being traded to Yankees

TSN Blue Jays reporter Scott Mitchell joins Scott MacArthur to provide his reaction and analysis of the J.A. Happ trade, and what the Blue Jays got back in return.

Over his two stints with the Jays, Happ is 59-41 with an ERA of 3.88. He also recently represented Toronto at the MLB All-Star Game where he earned his first career save. Prior to playing with the Jays, Happ pitched for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Seattle Mariners, Houston Astros and the Philadelphia Phillies, where he was drafted in 2004. In 12 seasons, has a career ERA of 3.95 and a record of 102-82.

Happ will be a free agent at the end of this season, coming off a three-year, $36 million deal inked with the Blue Jays in November 2015. The Yankees will be responsible for just over $4.5 million remaining on Happ's contract for the season.

The Blue Jays sit at 46-55 entering play Thursday, good for fourth place in the American League East. They will be back in action Friday from Guaranteed Rate Field Chicago where they'll send right-hander Marcus Stroman to the hill against the White Sox.
