Season series: The Nashville Predators defeated the Vancouver Canucks 2-1 at Rogers Arena on Jan. 26. Goalie Pekka Rinne made 28 saves and forward James Neal scored the game-winning goal at 15:16 of the third period. The Canucks ended the Predators' 14-game point streak with a 4-2 win at Rogers Arena on March 12. Vancouver scored two goals and outshot Nashville 13-4 in the first period, and goaltender Ryan Miller made 37 saves.
Canucks team scope: Forward Daniel Sedin left the ice early Wednesday and there was no update on his status following practice. Forward Sven Baertschi missed practice after blocking a shot against the Winnipeg Jets in a 2-0 loss on Tuesday. Coach Willie Desjardins said the Canucks will know more about Baertschi's availability against the Predators on Thursday. Forwards Jannik Hansen (ribs) and Derek Dorsett (upper body), and defenseman Yannick Weber (upper body), practiced and Desjardins said they are closer to returning to the lineup. Hansen has missed 11 games and is hopeful to return against the Predators. "Hopefully get back in [Thursday] and get a chance to play," Hansen told Canucks TV. "It took a little longer than I'd like it to, but sometimes that's the way it is."
Predators team scope: Forward Paul Gaustad and defenseman Anthony Bitetto each missed practice Wednesday. Gaustad has missed the past seven games with an upper-body injury. Nashville (87 points) is six points ahead of the Minnesota Wild for the first wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference. "It's definitely nice to have a few points over [the Colorado Avalanche] and Minnesota there," forward Ryan Johansen said. "Hopefully we can expand the point differential in between those two teams." Forward Eric Nystrom returned to the lineup in a 5-2 win against the Los Angeles Kings on Monday, replacing forward Austin Watson on the fourth line. Watson appeared to be the odd man out once again at practice.
