Calgary Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau said he gained a few pounds this offseason and does not expect to suffer a sophomore jinx.
"Good weight, too; more muscle," Gaudreau told the Calgary Herald on Tuesday. "It's exciting to get a little more weight on me. ...
"It all comes down to how hard you work your own body. I think I did a really good job this summer."
Gaudreau, listed at 5-foot-9, 150 pounds on the Flames website, was a finalist for the Calder Trophy last season after scoring 64 points (24 goals, 40 assists) in 80 games as a rookie.
He followed a strong freshman season at Boston College with a better one as a sophomore and said he expects to do the same in the NHL.
"I didn't have [a sophomore jinx] at school, so hopefully I don't have one here, but you obviously see players fall into that category; hopefully, it's not me, you know," the 22-year-old said. "Obviously, it all comes down to the way I play. If I have a bad season, it's on me.
"For me, it's just continuing my success from last year, getting better at the little things that I wasn't so great at last year."
