MONTREAL -- The Montreal Impact traded rarely used forward Mike Fucito on Friday to the Portland Timbers.
In return, Portland sent Montreal either an MLS SuperDraft second-round pick in 2013 or an international roster slot through Dec. 31, 2013.
Montreal's acquisition is conditional on Fucito's performance this season with Portland.
"We would like to thank Mike for his commitment to being part of this organization," said Impact head coach Jesse Marsch. "We feel this move will allow us to have flexibility on our roster while investing in our future."
The 26-year-old forward made one appearance for the Impact, playing 26 minutes in the club's debut in Vancouver as a second-half substitute. He also played three reserve league games.
Fucito was originally acquired by the Impact from the Seattle Sounders on Feb. 17, along with midfielder Lamar Neagle.
The move comes with Montreal struggling in the young season with a 1-5-2 record.
Portland also announced Friday that forward Eddie Johnson retired after a 10-year pro career in England and the United States.
The 27-year-old Johnson joined the Timbers before their inaugural season last year but has been hampered by injuries, including a third concussion in February.
Johnson's career started with Manchester United and he appeared with the first team during the 2003-04 season. He played for several English clubs before moving to the United States in 2009.
