Evan Bouchard had a night for the history books on Saturday.
The Edmonton Oilers defenceman notched six points (three goals and three assists) in his team's 6-5 overtime win over the Washington Capitals.
Bouchard joined Bobby Orr as the only defencemen to record six points and eight shots on goal in one game.
The legendary Boston Bruins blue-liner did it twice — Nov. 14, 1971, versus the Los Angeles Kings and Nov. 7, 1974, against the Washington Capitals.
"It's kind of hard to argue with six points," Bouchard told Sportsnet's Scott Oake after his first career hat trick. "I'm just happy we got the win."
Bouchard also became the first Oilers defenceman to deliver a hat trick since Marc-Andre Bergeron on Jan. 14, 2006, and the first Edmonton blue-liner to put up six points in a game since Paul Coffey on March 14, 1986.
"That was massive for us," the native of Oakville, Ont., said. "The homestand isn't how we wanted (it to be) so far, so hopefully this one picks us up and we keep rolling off that."
Bouchard now has 14 goals on the season, matching his total from 2024-25. His career high is 18 from 2023-24.
