Kenneth Heiner-Møller is back with Canada Soccer.
The organization named the 55-year-old Dane its new sporting director on Friday. Heiner-Møller previously served as manager of the women's senior side from 2018 to 2020. He was currently serving as the technical director of Major League Soccer side San Diego.
"I'm excited to take on the role of Sporting Director and to return to Canada Soccer," Heiner-Møller said in a statement. Having previously worked within the organization, I understand its responsibility in shaping the game nationally while keeping Canada competitive internationally. When I come on board in the next few months, I look forward to setting a clear sporting direction with strong colleagues and working closely with clubs, leagues, provinces, and territories to support continued alignment and growth across the game."
Prior to joining the CanWNT team as an assistant manager under John Herdman in 2015, Heiner-Møller served as manager of the Denmark women's senior side from 2006 to 2013.
"Kenneth is an internationally respected technical leader, and we're excited to welcome him back to Canada Soccer," Canada Soccer chief executive officer Kevin Blue said in a statement. "His familiarity with our environment, combined with his diverse global experience as an executive and coach, will be vital as we strengthen our sporting structure and prepare for a crucial time in our organization's history and the management of post‑World Cup growth."
Canada Soccer says Heiner-Møller will transition into his role over the next months as he winds down his responsibilities with San Diego.
