As Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported in September, Klefbom was considering options on how to deal with injuries from last season, including undergoing surgery that could keep him out long-term. The 27-year-old was out of the lineup from mid-February until early March with a shoulder injury.
The Swedish defenceman had five goals and 29 assists last season, and played in all four of Edmonton's playoff games, registering two assists. He also averaged 25:25 of ice time per game during the 2019-20 season, a large portion of time that may be difficult for the Oilers to replace.
Holland also announced that forward Gaetan Haas would miss the start of training camp because he was a close contact of a positive COVID-19 case in Switzerland earlier this month, which delayed his travel timeline.
