Season series: Defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen scored with 16.8 seconds remaining to give the Buffalo Sabres a 3-2 win against the Vancouver Canucks at First Niagara Center on Nov. 7. Linus Ullmark made 35 saves for the Sabres; Ryan Miller made 19 saves in his return to Buffalo after playing parts of 11 seasons with the Sabres from 2002-14.

Sabres team scope: Center Zemgus Girgensons left a 4-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday after taking a puck to the face in the third period and did not return. It is not known if he will play. "He is getting stitched up," coach Dan Bylsma told the Sabres website. "I don't want to say he is fine because he has a pretty nasty looking cut on his face, but he is getting worked on now." Buffalo began a three-game Western Canadian road trip which will conclude Thursday at the Calgary Flames and didn't use playing in different time zones as an excuse Sunday. "I would like to say it does, but every game we have choices and decisions we have to make and tonight we didn't do them early enough," center Ryan O'Reilly said. The Sabres are 5-5-2 on the road this season.

Canucks team scope: Vancouver goalie Ryan Miller could start after Jacob Markstrom made 18 saves in a 4-0 loss to the Boston Bruins on Saturday. The two have alternated starts in each of the past four games. The Canucks have lost five games in a row (0-3-2), their third losing streak of three or more games this season. It's the third game of a four-game homestand. "We haven't come out with some of the games I thought we'd come out with," coach Willie Desjardins told the Canucks website after practice Sunday. "I like our group, I still do. ... We've been inconsistent and when you're inconsistent, guys lose confidence in each other so we have to start at the basics and we have to work through it and we have to get back on track." Vancouver has scored five goals in five games. "I've seen this team play some amazing hockey and we have to get back to that, we have to get that swagger back, that confidence back," forward Brandon Prust said. "We have a great team here."
