MONTREAL -- T.J. Oshie scored his second goal of the game at 8:17 of the third period and Braden Holtby made 33 saves and extended his winning streak to eight games in the Washington Capitals' 3-2 win against the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre on Thursday.
Oshie twice gave Washington one-goal leads, including a 2-1 advantage with 43.2 seconds remaining in the second period. The Capitals right wing's shot struck Mike Condon and soared above the Montreal goalie, who lost sight of the puck, which bounced off his back and into the net.
Brian Flynn drew the Canadiens even for the second time when he scored Montreal's sixth shorthanded goal at 2:30 of the third period to make it 2-2.
Oshie put Washington (18-5-1) ahead again when he tipped defenseman Karl Azner's shot past Condon for his second goal of the game.
Tom Wilson scored at 2:26 of the first period for the Capitals, who won their season-high sixth in a row. Washington won five straight from Oct. 15-23.
Lars Eller drew Montreal (19-5-3) even at 1-1 at 12:08 of the second.
Condon made 17 saves for the Canadiens, who had not lost in regulation through their first 18 games (15-0-3) against Eastern Conference opponents.
Holtby, who was named the NHL's Second Star of the Month for November on Tuesday, has his longest winning streak in the NHL. It is the longest streak by a Capitals goalie since Jose Theodore's 10-game streak in 2009-10, which tied Pat Riggin's team record.
Montreal had a 35-20 advantage in shots on goal, including 17-7 in the second period.
Holtby made an outstanding left pad save on Max Pacioretty's shot from the goalmouth in the first. He denied Pacioretty again in the second with two straight saves on the Montreal captain, who chased down a dump-in by Paul Byron to create a scoring chance and nearly score on the rebound.
Washington is 12-1-0 when it scores the first goal of the game, 12-0-0 when leading after the first period, and 7-0-0 when leading after the second.
