ARRAS, France – Canada's women's basketball team defeated Poland 73-68 on Wednesday to improve to 3-1 on their European tour.

Kia Nurse of Hamilton scored 15 points, while Tamara Tatham of Brampton, Ont., added 13 points and three rebounds.

The Canadians had already defeated Poland once on their exhibition tour, which is a final tuneup for next month's Pan American Games, then the FIBA Americas Olympic qualifying tournament in August.

"Tonight was another tough game. We knew Poland was going to be out to gain some revenge. They played hard from start to finish," said coach Lisa Thomaidis. "I thought defensively we made some good adjustments. Offensively, our transition game again was the difference. We were running right until the end."

The Canadians led 21-14 after the first quarter, but went into the halftime break with a narrow 38-35 lead. A rally late in the third sent Canada into the fourth with a 56-50 advantage.

"We definitely ran very well in transition, which we have been working on," Tatham said. "Defensively, down the stretch, we came up with some big stops and we were composed at the end."
