Lokks-

I had a hard disk failure on my main PC (not my music server, thankfully) and have had to replace the drive and reinstall Windows 7 and all my apps from scratch. After installing the latest version of ApexDC++ and entering my settings as previously instructed, I cannot connect to the Hub any more. I joined the Surround Hub way back in 2010.

I still have the email from VF with the instructions for connecting. Maybe some settings have changed since then? The following is from VF-

Here are the instructions for connecting:

  1. We recommend the ApexDC++ client (or "Mac DC++" or "Shakespeer" for Mac). Download ApexDC++ at http://www.apexdc.net.
  2. Choose and open up a TCP port and a UDP port in your router/firewall(s), and enter them in Apex's Connection settings. Choose "Firewall with manual port forwarding". The port can be the same for TCP/UDP.
  3. Now go to Settings > Sharing, and choose the folders you'd like to share in ApexDC++. The files will gradually "hash" and you will see your hub share size grow as this happens. The advantage of hashing is that the hub will detect if you have the same file as another user, meaning speeds are quicker for people who download that file. (Similar to eMule).
  4. While your share is hashing ready for the hub, think of a username and password that you would like to use, and email it to me. This is a private hub which requires everyone to log in with a unique username and password.
  5. I will then register your chosen username/pass on the hub, and email you back to confirm. Then, in Apex go to the "Favorite hubs" list (Crtl+F), right-click and add a new entry and put in the address 91.121.74.165:30123 along with your nick and password and any other settings you want for the hub. Click OK and tick it so it will automatically connect at startup.

Back in 2010 when I first connected, VF told me to configure my router for port forwarding. Since then, I had replaced my Netgear router with an ASUS router and it looks like I had been able to connect and share without any port forwarding settings in the ASUS router. If I had set port forwarding for the Hub on my ASUS router, it should still be set that way, because I haven't messed with the router settings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Nor
