Goaltender Andrew Hammond and the Ottawa Senators agreed to terms Wednesday on a three-year, $4.05 million contract, an average annual value of $1.35 million.
Hammond became an NHL sensation upon taking over the No. 1 job after the Senators lost Craig Anderson and Robin Lehner to injuries and going 20-1-2 with a 1.79 goals-against average and .941 save percentage.
Nicknamed "The Hamburglar," Hammond tied an NHL record by giving up two goals or fewer in 12 consecutive starts to begin his career and went his first 15 starts without a regulation loss (14-0-1), helping the Senators rally to claim the first wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference.
Hammond started and lost the first two games of the Eastern Conference First Round against the Montreal Canadiens before Anderson replaced him as starter for the remainder of the series. The Senators lost in six games.
Fire up the grills! Excited to be coming back to @Senators for 3 more years!
