WINDSOR, Ont. — Jennifer Abel won the bronze medal on Saturday in the women's three-metre at the FINA world series diving circuit.
He Zi of China won gold with 378.90 points, her compatriot Han Wang was second at 363.60 while Abel, from Laval, Que., scored 359.60.
"It was a close competition and I was happy that I didn't lose my focus," said Abel, who is second in the world series standings with three medals and 66 total points. "The girls dove well today and it was a pretty stressful competition."
Pamela Ware of Beloeil, Que., was fourth in her semifinal for seventh overall. The top three from each of the two semis held Saturday morning advanced to the final.
Abel and Francois Imbeau-Dulac of St-Lazare, Que., were fourth on mixed three-metre synchro. They missed the podium by less than a point.
On men's three-metre, Imbeau-Dulac and Montreal's Philippe Gagne — ranked eighth and 12th overall in the semis — did not advance.
Jack Laugher of Britain won the gold, the only non-Chinese victor after seven finals so far this weekend.
Competition continues on Sunday.
