{allcanada} Canadiens advance, will face Red Wings or Lightning

The Montreal Canadiens advanced to the Eastern Conference Second Round when they eliminated the Ottawa Senators with a 2-0 victory in Game 6 on Sunday.

The Canadiens will face the Tampa Bay Lightning, who they defeated in four games in the 2014 Eastern Conference First Round, or the Detroit Red Wings. Detroit leads Tampa Bay 3-2 heading into Game 6 of their first-round series Monday at Joe Louis Arena (7 p.m.; CNBC, CBC, TVA Sports, FS-D, FS-F).

Montreal had vastly different results against each team this season, going 4-0-0 against Detroit and 0-4-1 against Tampa Bay.

Forwards Lars Eller and David Desharnais each scored an overtime goal to give the Canadiens two of their wins against the Red Wings. Defenseman P.K. Subban and forward Tomas Plekanec led Montreal with six points each, and forward Max Pacioretty had four points.

Vezina Trophy candidate Carey Price was 3-0-0 with a 1.32 goals-against average and a shutout.

Montreal scored eight goals in five games against Tampa Bay; Pacioretty (two goals) was the only player who scored more than one; Plekanec had four points.

Price was 0-4-1 with a 3.47 goals-against average.

Montreal has lost seven of 12 playoff series against Detroit; it has split two series with Tampa Bay.

Forward Brendan Gallagher had five points when the Canadiens swept the Lightning last spring. But Tampa Bay played the entire series without goalie Ben Bishop, who was out because of an injury.

Bishop was 5-0-0 with a 1.59 goals-against average and .933 save percentage against the Canadiens this season. Forward Steven Stamkos scored five goals.

Five players scored one goal each for Detroit against Montreal.
