The Montreal Canadiens acquired defenseman Jeff Petry and forward Brian Flynn on Monday in separate trades.

Petry was traded by the Edmonton Oilers for a second-round and a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.

Flynn was traded by the Buffalo Sabres for a fifth-round pick in 2016.

Petry, 27, has four goals and 15 points in 59 games this season.

A second-round pick (No. 45) by the Oilers in the 2006 NHL Draft, he has 17 goals and 74 points in 295 NHL games.

Flynn, 26, has a career-high 17 points (five goals) in 54 games this season. He has 17 goals and 41 points in 159 NHL games.

"I obviously don't expect to go [to Montreal] and play the 20 minutes a night that I've been playing here," Flynn told the Sabres website. "They've got a really deep lineup, a lot of good forwards, a lot of guys who can score. If I do play more of a defensive role or kill some penalties and things like that, whatever I can do to help the team win, that's what I'm going to do."
