SENATORS (20-22-9) at SABRES (16-35-3)
TV: RDS2, TSN5, MSG-B, BELL TV
Season series: Ottawa Senators forward Bobby Ryan scored his fourth career hat trick in a 5-2 win against the Buffalo Sabres at Canadian Tire Centre on Dec. 29. Sabres forward Matt Moulson scored the only goal in the shootout in a 5-4 win on Dec. 15. Buffalo goalie Jhonas Enroth is 1-1-0 with a 3.95 goals-against average and .882 save percentage.
Senators team scope: Goaltender Robin Lehner will make his sixth consecutive start Tuesday with No. 1 goalie Craig Anderson unable to return from a hand injury. Defenseman Chris Phillips, who missed the Senators' 4-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday, likely will need a week or so to recover from what coach Dave Cameron called "somewhere between a lower and upper-body injury". Lehner is 1-4-0 with a .917 save percentage since Anderson was sidelined and has lost his past three starts. He made 29 saves on 32 shots Saturday. "Well we've lost three in a row and I'm not happy about it," Lehner said. "None of us are happy with how we played that third period. We lost a game that I think was easily winnable or at least to get a point out of." Ottawa (4-0-2) hasn't lost to Buffalo in regulation since April 5, 2013. "We haven't earned the right to take any game that should be a sure win or a guaranteed win for granted," Cameron said.
Sabres team scope: Buffalo will have four days after playing Ottawa before finishing a five-game homestand Sunday against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Sabres are 2-2-0 since their 14-game losing streak, which ran from Dec. 29 to Feb. 3. Buffalo tied a franchise record for fewest shots on goal with 10 in a 3-2 loss to the New York Islanders on Sunday. "Ten shots in a game just isn't going to cut it. You don't give yourself a chance to get back in the game," captain Brian Gionta told the Sabres website after the game. "I thought we had a good push there in the second, but regardless, we've got to do a better job throughout the whole game." The Sabres also had 10 shots in a 4-0 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Oct. 28, 2014. Enroth, who did not start Sunday, has allowed six goals on 103 shots in his past three starts.
