MONTREAL — Canada will host Romania in a Fed Cup World Group playoff tie in April.
Tennis Canada said in a release Tuesday that choice of surface, venue, and team nominations will be decided at a later date.
Canada was relegated to a World Group playoff following its 4-0 first-round defeat to Czech Republic last weekend.
Canada's team was missing world No. 7 Eugenie Bouchard as well as Fed Cup veteran Aleksandra Wozniak.
A victory in the April tie will move Canada into the elite World Group for just the second time.
Canada is currently ranked ninth in the Fed Cup rankings while Romania is ranked 12th.
