SONOMA, Calif. – Cameron Hayley continues to tack on 2013 pole awards. The 16-year-old Canadian from Calgary, Alberta, earned the 21 Means 21 Pole Award presented by Coors Brewing Co., his third in six races, during qualifying Saturday for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Carneros 200 at Sonoma Raceway.
Hayley, recently named to the 13-member NASCAR Next class, an overarching industry initiative to help spotlight NASCAR's rising stars, turned in a fast lap of 77.743 seconds (92.150 mph) around the winding 1.99-mile road course.
Hayley's teammate and 2011 series champion, Greg Pursley, was second quickest with a lap of 77.821 seconds (92.057 mph). Derek Thorn was third quickest, followed by former Sunoco Rookie of the Year Paulie Harraka, making his first start in the series since 2011. Current points leader and fellow NASCAR Next member Michael Self rounded out the top five. He looks to add to his current win streak, which currently sits at three.
Dylan Lupton, Eric Holmes, David Mayhew, Chris Cook and Kyle Heckman completed the top 10.
This event is the seventh on a 15-race schedule this season. It is second of three road course races on tap for the series in 2013.
The Carneros 200 is set to go green start at 1:19 p.m. PT.
